Jesus Christ is the climax of the biblical storyline. He brings the Old Testament to fulfillment and launches God's saving mission to the nations. Matthew’s Gospel begins by picking up this storyline, connecting Jesus to the great figures of Israel, such as Abraham and King David. Matthew ends with the Great Commission to make disciples of all nations. The life, teachings, miracles, death, and resurrection of Jesus tie these two stories together into one, great history of redemption. Through Jesus, God's kingdom comes about on earth as it is in heaven. That's what Matthew is all about.
